Hudson County New Jersey Embraces the Private Cloud with Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms
RICHARDSON, TX – October 4, 2011 – today announced that Hudson County, New Jersey has adopted Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms as the foundation for new private cloud computing services.
As one of the most densely populated counties in the United States, Hudson County IT envisioned a technology infrastructure able to improve data center efficiencies while managing information across government agencies, departments, and local municipalities. Additionally, the county was searching for cost-effective ways to mobilize its workforce and improve service delivery.
By adopting solutions from VCE, Hudson County has taken a transformative approach to delivering IT services that enables increased efficiency and scalability – providing the right amount of capacity and performance required for each of their government agencies while reducing redundant IT assets and conserving data center space. In addition the Vblock Solution for VMware View™ allows Hudson County to efficiently implement and realize the cost and flexibility benefits that a virtual desktop brings to supporting an increasingly mobile workforce.
“With information technology supporting virtually every government process, we depend on efficient and scalable IT solutions that allow our agencies to work at full capacity in order to better serve our constituency,” said Jim Delaney, CIO for Hudson County New Jersey. “Our move to a private cloud environment not only greatly enhances our ability to meet these objectives, but also provides a catalyst for a new wave of technologies and resources that will help us to drive innovative solutions while lowering overhead.”
The Vblock platform is helping Hudson County to:
- Support government applications and implement scalability to meet the needs of multiple agencies and departments - including law enforcement records management, corrections management, finance, elections, engineering, GIS, HR, payroll and time and attendance, hospital records
- Improve enterprise agility through an established Virtual Disaster Recovery site, which can be provisioned and maintained remotely
- Provide secure remote access while decreasing maintenance costs for mobile workers connecting to the county’s IT infrastructure during times of inclement weather, road construction, and other congestion issues inherent with a crowded metropolis
- Comply rapidly with state mandates without having to purchase, stage, and implement additional physical resources
“Through the VCE Vblock Infrastructure Platforms, Hudson County will increase its IT efficiencies – and in turn, improve overall IT operations,” said Todd Pavone, Executive Vice President, Products & Solutions, VCE. “By investing in cloud computing, Hudson County demonstrates leadership in adopting innovative IT solutions that will transform their technology capabilities and enable them to serve their citizens and employees more effectively.”
Hudson County plans to continue its investment in private cloud computing this year by using Vblock platforms as the basis for a county internal service provider network, leveraging the multitenancy capabilities of the Vblock platforms to offer cloud computing services that can be subscribed ondemand to county agencies and local municipalities. This Public Computing Utility (PCU) model will provide towns across the county with the benefits of secure private cloud computing for a fraction of what it is currently costing these entities to physically stand up and support these environments using their own resources. Hudson County will also partner with other state districts to build a disaster recovery site using virtual platforms, in addition to business continuity software and services.
