WEAPONS EFFECT
QuickTime Movies
Most damage to buildings and other structures from a nuclear explosion results from the effects of blast. The rapid expansion of the fireball produces a high-pressure pulse, or shock wave, that moves rapidly outward from the exploding bomb. Damage is caused both by the overpressure of the air at the front of the blast wave and by the strong winds after the wave front has passed.
